Must Haves to Survive a Long Haul Flight

Sitting in a small, confined, uncomfortable space for more than 10 hours is never fun! But, there are some things that can make the long journey just a little bit better. If you’re fully prepared, it won’t be so bad!

Here are some of my must haves in my carry on for long haul flights:

Snacks! – If you can’t easily fall asleep, that’s what the movies are for… but what’s a movie without any snacks? Make sure you have a few varieties so you can munch on them throughout the flight.

Face Sprays – When you’re traveling… you’re tired and your skin probably feels a bit dry and dull… a quick and easy freshener are face sprays or mists. My absolute favorite ones are the Mario Badescu sprays. The green tea wakes me up, the rose smells lovely and the lavender helps me feel relaxed! Or the Evian ones are great as well!

Face wipes – Traveling for hours and hours and being on a plane at such high altitudes can really dry out your skin and make your skin feel really dry and dull. Make sure you have a few face wipes on hand, so that you can feel refreshed without having to fully wash your face in a sink. (Here are some of my favorites:

Simple Face Wipes

The Face Shop – Jeju Volcanic Lava Pore Cleansing Wipes

Travel pillow – There are so many different ones out there on the market… so, do your research and find one that best fits you. (I read a bunch of reviews on the TRTL pillow, so I purchased one from Amazon. It definitely helps with neck pain but if you don’t like scarves or things around your neck, this probably wouldn’t be for you!) I actually prefer just a simple travel pillow.

Headphones – whether you’re bringing your laptop, iPad, etc, or to watch the movies… you’ll want to have your own headphones with you. The ones they give you on the airplane are usually really cheap and uncomfortable.

Tissues – these always come in handy, trust me.

Antibacterial handwipes – I find the hand wipes are a lot better than the gel sanitizers. Airports and airplanes can be the dirtiest places… so make sure your hands are clean. (You don’t want to get sick while you’re on vacation!)

Eye drops – sometimes it’s really hard to get some sleep on the plane… but being tired can also dry your eyes out. Make sure you have some eye drops handy so that you can keep your eyes from getting too dry.

Moisturizer – after you cleanse with the face wipes, make sure you add a little moisturizer to your face. This really makes a difference! You’ll feel great and refreshed.

Pain meds – I suggest some pepto bismol tablets and ibuprofen. You never know when you’ll get that stomach ache or that awful headache.

Sleep aids – if you have trouble falling asleep, sleep aids can help. Just make sure you know what you’re taking and have taken them before. You don’t want to try something new on a 10+ hour trip. Sometimes it can affect your body in a negative way. My favorite sleep aid right now are the Zzzquil gummies.

Extra chargers (battery packs) – You’ll always want to have at least one portable charger to charge your phone, iPad, laptop or whatever else to keep you entertained.

Disposable toothbrushes – I love Colgate Wisps! It’s crazy just how much better you feel after having that fresh, clean mouth feeling. The other side works as a toothpick as well, so you can get any of that stubborn food out of your teeth.

Pen – if you’re traveling internationally, you’ll have to fill out an immigration card on the plane. They don’t provide you with anything to write with so make sure you have one ready to go, so that your card is filled out before you get to immigration. It makes the whole process go by faster.

Chapstick – if your face gets dry, chances are your lips will too.
