I had to take a quick trip to Kuala Lumpur to do some Visa stuff… So, I decided to make it into a mini vacation as well. I think I had a bit of a higher expectation of the city though… because overall, I was a little disappointed but there were a few highlights of the trip.
I was only in KL for 3 days and that was more than enough. If you’re already planning a trip to a Southeast Asian country, I suggest you can make a quick stop in KL but don’t make a whole trip just to go here…
My favorite part of the whole trip was visiting the Petronas Twin Towers. They are really beautiful buildings… I suggest you check them out both during the day and then at night as well. At night, they turn on the lights and it sparkles, it’s really a sight to see. You can also take a tour of the towers which costs about $20. It was really worth it though. They first take you up to the skybridge where you can walk along it and see the city and then they take you up to the top floor, 86 to be exact, where you can see 360 views of the entire city! It was a cool experience.

I think I expected more from the Batu Caves because… well, were they cool? Yes, but not as cool as I pictured in my head or from the images that I saw on Instagram and Pinterest… Should you still visit? Absolutely. The stairs weren’t too bad and there are rest areas in between, so, you’ll be fine. Watch out for the monkeys though, they are very aggressive! Make sure you’re not carrying any food around or they will try to snatch it right out of your hands.

Definitely check out the malls they have here. I know, malls?! But the malls here are really fancy and beautiful! They’re worth a stroll around.
Last on my list of things to do in KL… go to a rooftop bar! The views are really spectacular. I went to Skybar located in the Traders Hotel. You can get some amazing views of the Petronas Towers right in front. There’s also a pool right in the middle of the bar! (You can’t swim in it but it’s still cool!) Cocktails were a bit pricey, but you’re paying for the views and ambiance so, splurge a little.
I went during the month of November, so it rained everyday I was there… If you go during rainy season, make sure to pack an umbrella.
Also, the bus is free to ride but the traffic in Kuala Lumpur is awful! Make sure you give yourself enough time to get anywhere.
Unfortunately, KL is not on my list of favorite cities but it is still worth checking out if you’re in the area.
